The 17 Greatest Classic Cartoons Of All Time!
I have to say I am an expert in cartoons! I grew up waiting for that Friday night special before the new season of Saturday morning cartoons. The people who know what I mean will agree with me. For you youngins just read the top 17 greatest cartoons of all time:
The Flintstones: The greatest cartoon ever made! Not to mention I look like him. He is a mans man. He is a leader and a great father. Funny and always a great lesson to learn. His wife is always right. You can still see reruns over the 40 year run. I do look like him. I used to hang around with a short blond guy to. I like food. My wife is hot. So is Wilma.
The Simpsons: It has been said it is the greatest tv show of all time. This show is awesome with the diverse characters, movie, and story-lines. Hope it never ends.
Family guy: Holy cow this is some funny stuff. I am from Rhode Island so I get all the inside jokes. I always wondered if people get some of those. Like Buddy Cianci school etc…. This soon will be the greatest in my book.
Wait Till You Father Gets Home: Before there was the Simpson’s or the Family Guy there was this classic. You need to watch it to see the comparisons. The father wasn’t stupid but the daughter was ugly and musically inclined. Sounds familiar?
Spongebob Squarepants:I am from the cooking industry so when I heard there was a cartoon about a sponge who lived under the sea and was a fry cook I was hooked! Great cartoon with some adult humor if you catch it.
Pinky and the Brain: Who wouldn’t love a cartoon about a sinister mouse trying to take over the world!
The Super Friends: I read the comics so I expected blood and beatings! Never happened but I still loved the show through my youth. Did anyone ever see the live action one I believe in the 70′s or early 80′s? Wonder woman was hot! What about the stupid monkey Gleek? I thought I saw him in a later movie where they ate his brain.
Mighty Mouse: Great crime fighter he always kicked butt. I loved the cartoon that was on his show do you remember The Mighty Heroes? Good Times!
Josie and the Pussycats: Melody was my first crush! Good thing my wife looks like her.
Deputy Dog: The only dog stupider (is this a word? I doubt it!) then this dog is my dog Mike. -
Popeye:I always loved that show. Eat the spinach kick some azz. Hey wasn’t Olive Oil a dog? Bluto can keep her. I would kick that hamburger stealing fat guys azz to. Oh yea and who is that little kid anyway crawling around every so often. I would call child services on all of them.
Grape Ape: Who wouldn’t love a giant grape ape? By the way speaking about king kong and godzilla. Those cartoons sucked. How come even in the movies they never talked about when one of the giant animals took a crap? Can you imagine calling special hazard units to clean that mess?
Woody Woodpecker:Where to begin. That laugh goes through me. I didn’t get to see allot of this cartoon but when I did I enjoyed it. Now let’s say your about to put a new cartoon on the Disney Channel. You got to the management and tell they you want to make a cartoon called Woody Wood Pecker…. A few references do you see my point? I remember my son saying to me hey dad ” I want a giant woody (from toy story)” and I said son we all do!
Ren and Stimpy: Who doesn’t love a cartoon about farts, snots, and hairy pimples? MMMM hairy pimples.
Road Runner: With technology today I would kill that little bastard and eat it. Love the coyote trying new stuff but I say it has to sleep sometime!
Animaniacs: So much adult humor in this cartoon. I think I enjoyed it more then my daughter. Those crazy things. What the hell are they?
Bugs Bunny: I never cared for bugs. I like Daffy. I would eat the rabbit. Seriously what is that red hair monster with the giant sneakers?

Tom & Jerry?
Tom & Jerry! I forgot about that one. It really sucked when they remade it in the 80′s. The old ones are classics. Would you consider it violent?
I cannot believe that you forgot about Hong Kong Phooey….I’m going to cry now….
I keep mixing up Hong Kong Phooey and Underdog so I disqualified them both.
Here were and are my fav’s from over the years…I grouped them by when I watched them.
Thundar the Barbarian Old school cheese…but of the awesome gorganzola kind. No indepth story plots or dialogue…just a beefy guy with a big sword…a hot chick…and some kind of really hairy wooky thing. The fact that this was on when I was around 1 and a 1/2 to 2 years of age and I still remember it is awesome.
The Pink Panther I even had a record with the theme song.
Scooby-Do I’ve always been a fan of the paranormal/supernatural…and even though it always got debunked in this show…and despite Shaggy’s annoying voice, I loved this cartoon. Plus Velma was awesome…even if she was a little nasaly.
Shazaam Super cheesy…but those kids were always getting in trouble and their rings and Shazaam were cool.
Mighty Mouse I loved the intro song.
Casper the Friendly Ghost What can I say…I’ve always loved ghosts and the like!
Yogi Bear I loved this show when I was little…but I think it was just because he was a bear lol.
Heathcliff His ability to clean a whole fish to just the bones was astounding.
Alvin and The Chipmunks
Rainbow Bright Strong female character with powers…and rainbow colors and wands.
Pound Puppies I loved puppies…this show wasn’t overly awesome but I loved it.
The Smurfs They were annoying but Gargamel was so evil…and the use of classical music was superb
Spiderman Even at a young age I wanted poor Peter to have some good luck relationship wise.
Go-Bots The Transformers precursor…not as good but I was a go-bot for halloween one year…good times.
Transformers Optimus Prime…was the man. (well intelligent robotic being but you get the point heh)
J.E.M.and the Holligrams Horrible story line…but somehow I was always thoroughly entertained…plus her pink high heels fit on my Ken dolls.
He-Man and She-Ra I always liked the He-man story lines better…but She-Ra was my idol…she kicked butt…and had the best toys out of any cartoon turned merchandise…well except for maybe J.E.M. lol…you can’t go wrong with a transparent sparkly pink pegasus…and swords.
Snorks Lil things with breathing tubes on thier heads that live in the ocean…pretty much sums it up…but I loved it.
Inspector Gadget! So many awesome things about this cartoon, he was such a goof ball but he had all of these gadgets lol.
Thunder Cats Ho!!! This show was just awesome…interesting characters and story plots.
Ghostbusters! I recently watched an old episode…and realized I’ve been a geek my whole life…that show was awesome because they actually did research into whatever the topic of the day was. They had great story plots and the characters were interesting. It still entertains me to this day.
Captain Planet! Loaded with cheese…but I was an enviormental dork when I was little…and this show entertained me to no end.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles I watched this for the first time over a school vacation in fourth grade…it was the first cartoon that carried on a story line throughout a whole week and didn’t rely solely on stand alone episodes…it had ninjas…a computer dork…a strong woman character in April O’Niel…Shredder and his foot soldiers were evil even if Rocksteady and Be-bop were lame lol. I do believe this was my absolute fav animated show until I discovered anime.
Darkwing Duck “I am the terror that flaps in the night!” Darker than most superhero cartoons…yet super goofy and poked fun and paid homage to various superheroes.
Gargoyles Considering how dumbed down it had to be for mainstream tele, this show was full of interesting paranormal/occult stuff and had some darkness which I as a wierd kid loved.
Talespin I have no idea why i liked this one…except for the fact that Baloo was a loveable character…maybe it was that he had his own plane? But I watched it anyway
Batman I am a fan of batman in all his incarnations…good stuff there.
Ren and Stimpy Great art work + disgusting story lines + a song about logs = puer awesomeness.
Beavis and Butthead Dumb in a completely entertaining way, horrible animation combined with the chance to see cool videos.
Daria a B+B spinoff…that had great animation…interesting characters that talked about interesting topics. She was a geek girl who felt misunderstoond…and tried to say she didn’t care…but she really did…she was my hero not to mention her friends brother Trent was hot
Southpark sometimes way way out there…but always raunchy and usually has some awesome digging point by the end
Courage the Cowardly Dog A scared pink dog…loved by his elderly female owner…hated by his elderly male owner. They constantly get into situations where the dog has to save them.
Sheep: In the big city A cartoon about a sheep in the city…sounds dumb…but it’s absolutely hilarious…especially because all the sheep does is talk using varying forms of the sound Bah.
Dexter’s Lab A cute cartoon about an evil genius child…like Stewie Griffin without the desire to kill his mother.
Samurai Jack One of the awesomest cartoons EVER!!! Samurai jack has amazing animation…superb story plots…great action…drama…is emotional at times…just an all around great show. It pays homage to “Shogun Assassin”…and various other martial arts flicks. It’s made me cry on numerous occasions…and Jack never kills living creatures only robots so it’s safe for the kiddies. I can’t say enough good things about this cartoon…it’s a must watch!!!
Powerpuff Girls Cute, funny and entertaining…with strong female leads…it satisfies the girly aspect with still maintaing action and fights for those of us who are anti-girls.
Cow and Chicken A crazy cartoon about a cow and a chicken that were adopted by a human family…and this wierd devil guy who comes around to torture them now and then.
Sealab 2020 A fifteen minute short on Adult Swim on Cartoon Network about a group of researchers on a sealab. It’s crazy and entertaining…not for kids which makes it all the better.
Robot Chicken Another 15 minute short on A.S. on C.N.. It’s a series of little skits that are animated or use cut out animations. It spoofs everything and is hilarious and offensive…an awesome combination.
Metalocolypse An A.S. 15 minute short…a cartoon about the band Deathklok…a band whose sound is so metal and hardcore that something destructive always happens around them. It’s a satire on rock bands that features awesome music and hilarious story lines.
Moral Orel An A.S. 15 minute short…about a young boy and his attempt to understand christianity…always horribly offensive yet true and hilarious…deliciously blasphemous.
Family Guy I can’t possibly give this show a snippet that fully encompasses it’s awesomeness. It’s random…offensive…and intelligent.
Naruto My favorite anime ever…my favorite animated show period. A young boy who was a loner in his village discovers that the village has sealed a nine tailed demon fox inside him in order to save the village. This demon gives Naruto great powers but it also is a source for sadness. Naruto must make friends and learn to deal with the darkness within. It’s a show about the search for acceptance and love and the darkness you must fight within. It’s goofy yet heartwrenching. The characters are dynamic and can be both humerous and just awesome. It’s about ninjas and demons and the fight sequences are great and dont leave you feeling like they spent all the build up for nothing. I’m consistantly on the edge of my seat jaw dropped. The best (and only in my opinion) way to watch it is to download the torrents using bit torrent so that you can see the english subtitled episodes. Do not watch the english dubbed versions unless you are 10.
Read or Die: The T.V. An interesting anime about 3 women and 1 girl who have the power to manipulate paper…and have reading obsessions. It has twists and turns and the characters are strong and interesting.
Bleach An action packed anime about a highschool boy who ends up with more powers than he bargained for and has to save a new companion from certain doom. He’s harsh and abrasive but the action is good and from what i’ve seen the story lines are good.
Inu-Yasha An extremely cheesy anime that has some saving graces. A half demon/half human, Inu-Yasha (dog-boy) is saved by a young girl who is transported back in time when she falls down a temple well. She must help him find the pieces of a sacred jewel that can help him become entirely human (or does he really want to become entirely demonic?). In the mean time the girl must traverse through the well back home in attempts to keep up with highschool. The redeeming points come with the love story between Kagome and InuYasha…and the fact that Kagome is the reincarnation of Inuyasha’s old love. If you can get over Kagome only occasionaly saving the day and listening to her stand on the sidelines yelling Inuyasha’s name while he battles the baddies with attitude…then you’re in for an entertaining story.
Samurai Champloo An awesome anime that is loaded with lots of martial arts and interesting characters.
Hellsing An interesting anime about the Hellsing corparation that is trying to kill off evil vampires…with the use of a turned human…and the use of a very powerful vampire. Great action…some mecha…a fun watch.
Full Metal Alchemist An anime about two brothers trying to find the alchemist stone in order to get the younger brother back his body…because after trying to bring their mother back from the dead his soul wound up in a metal suit. Pop in alternate universes…interesting characters…and it makes for an entertaining watch.
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex One of the few mecha story lines that actually has some decent story plots. The art is amazing…the characters could be a little better but considering that in anime you usually have to choose between a good story or good art…this does a decent job at having both.
Personally, you remind me of Peter Griffin. I await the day when I say to you, “I need some excitement in my life!”, and you set the curtains on fire…..
Remember “Fractured Fairy Tales”? They were incredibly clever and hilarious! More for adults than kids I guess.
Peter…
I just wanted to tell you that your site is really awesome and is of a fantastic quality. The content is great and I will be returning….
Alvin and the chipmunks…
what about battle of the planets. transformers, thundercats, star blazers. gi joe. guyver bio boosted armor. robotech. d&d. gargoyles. he man. Jayce and the wheeled warriors. voltron. silverhawks.
thats stupid. No top cat!?!?!! That cartoon is better than half the cartoons listed here. I agree with Flintstones, and Simpsons whole heartedly. But no South Park??? Are you really that ignorant? No to mention you missed out on Huckleberry Hound, Augie Doggie, Tom and Jerry. Even Swat kats was nice. ANd listing Bug Bunny that low is BLASPHEMOUS. While I dont know if Simpsons is exactly a cartoon. But if it wasn’t then Loony Toons would by no. 1!
my personal favorite is The Simpsons. This is the most wonderful show I have ever seen. I love Homer.
I love Homer and Lisa….DOH……..and Family Guy too.
