The Walls are Bleeding and I am Plum Out of Band-Aids!
We moved into our 170 year old house six years ago and I have been fairly positive that it is haunted. It shouldn’t surprise anyone that there would be a chance of our house being haunted. After all it is 170 years old and in a small town in New Hampshire that was once a stop on the Underground Railroad.
My husband rolls his eyes when I say this-but he’s a Virgo so no big shock there.
We have gotten a few weird pictures and we have all heard and seen things that can only be described as odd. I have smelled cigar or cigarette smoke and at times perfume and there are times that you are in certain parts of the house and it just feels “creepy.” Even hubby looks out the window sometimes when it looks like someone is walking through the yard, only to find they really aren’t there. Musical battery-operated toys would have a habit of playing in the playroom when no one would be in there and once they were moved into the attic it went on as well until the batteries finally ran out. We moved the kids into the playroom when the bedroom we had them in proved too small for two growing little girls and it has been since then that the odd bump in the night started to lose its charm.
My older daughter, Sarah started saying she saw shadows and “apparitions” I figured this was because she started watching “Ghost Hunters” on the Sci-Fi Channel with me and she has a pretty active imagination. I tried telling her that her eyes were just playing tricks on her, or that she was letting the TV show influence her. Anyway, it didn’t seem to be an upsetting thing for her so we let it go.
My little one, Emily (age 8) never mentioned anything. The only thing she would do is become extremely upset if she was ever sent to her room alone or to bed early. She would cry in a way that it is nearly impossible to describe. It wasn’t a “a being punished” kind of crying or “I’m mad” or even “I’m lonely” it turns out it was an “I’m terrified” cry. And I can only say that now after not knowing for years. Emily only began talking about what was scaring her very recently.
Emily was sent to bed early for something I can’t remember and she begged me not to leave the room. I told her that she had to get used to being alone; and be a grown up girl. After she begged me not to leave a few more times, I finally did what a parent is supposed to do and left her in her room to cry it out.
I may have left her in there a minute before every instinct inside me screamed to get in there and get her out of that room. When I got there she was crying so hard she was almost hyperventilating! I told her she had to tell me what the problem was because it had to be more than not wanting to be alone. This same thing happened every time she was punished and she never spent more than five minutes in the room alone because I just felt like there was something wrong and brought her out.
This is when she told me she was also “things” in their bedroom at night. She was also seeing shadows and movement and once what appeared to be a person walking in her room and it scared her.
For years she has said that she needs to listen to music or a running air conditioner to sleep. What she didn’t tell me was that it was because she could hear knocking against her wall or things that sounded like toys being tossed across the room and then landing softly on the floor.
I have asked the girls if the activity has intensified lately and they said it hadn’t it was just as constant as ever. I just didn’t realize how much was really happening. My hope now is that we can find out what is happening in our home and if there is some logical explanation for it all. I have quickly come full circle from thinking how fun it is to be living in a “haunted house” to hoping a reputable paranormal investigator can find just mice in the walls and rattling pipes.

you are not losing your mind. I think that it important to let you know that right off the bat. Here is what I would advise you to do. Get a recorder and set it up in various areas of your home and let it record. Also, use your camera to take pictures when the toys go off on their own…you might want to consider setting them a certain way and see if and how much they move over a period of time. Video equipment in your daughters room while she sleeps might help to solve the mystery. The key to this is evidence and documentation. Write down the who what when and where and how long, no matter how silly it might seem. Then go online and contact a reputable paranormal investigation team in your area. Be sure and let them know that you have done some recording, photography etc. Best of luck to you!
I posted this on Yahoo answers and here is some responses!
Well many houses are said to be haunted. She needs to call in a team of paranormal researchers and let them see if they can capture anything on film or tape. It is also reported that children or teenagers seem to have more activity going on around them. Who really knows what is going on until some research is done.
Sounds haunted, but so does every 150 year old house. Until that house is investigated by “professionals”, they really just have a good spooky story. I wouldn’t label them as crazy, they just can’t explain what is going on in their house (according to the claim)
well since they are within driving distance for TAPS. They need to call Jason and Grant? I dont know what your wanting us to say here. There is no way for anybody in here to do anything but say, yeah, its a good haunting story.I cant verify the story, I live in Colorado. Nor can I deny the story. It is just that a story on a blog. They haven’t contacted the media that they mentioned, and they are asking or help on a blog site. So who knows.
They are really crazy people.Their house is not haunted at all.
I have read the article and it is so often that people contact me with “Am I crazy, or is this really happening?” Whether it is paranormal or if everything that is happening can be explained natually is something that she will need to let qualified indiviuals who investigate claims of the paranormal answer for her. But I will say that based on the age of the home, the history and the reports of activity there is certainly something going on there and she is not crazy.
It is hard to tell from her story. Many times when investigating you find that the reality is not the same as the story you first was told. when asking hard questions and direct questions people realize it did not happen exactly that Way. I can’t say her house is haunted or if they are crazy. it could be either. I would like to believe it is haunted but I am not close enough to do an investigation myself.
I would prefer she do some research herself and investigate the house here self. the so called professionals are merely weekend hobbyists which is fine but they do not know anything more than the average person except they have learned the techniques of ghost investigation from their favorite organization.
I psychically shuddered when she said she wanted reputable paranormal investigators. I guess they are all reputable as far as not committing any crimes or violating laws, but sadly too many people have called a so called professional and the end up with photos of dust particles as proof of their ghost.
The parents have the responsibility not to talk it up. Once the children hear the parents discussing the possible ghosts in the house, they are going to be expecting to see ghosts.
Ghosts or no ghosts, if the parents started confidently saying it was a bunch of nothing, the children would follow suit.
All it takes is for an adult to act scared or talk about it being haunted and the kids are going to find it to be haunted for sure.
If you go into a house looking to see apparitions, you are going to see apparitions.
A logical course of action would be to use nanny cams in the kids rooms and leave a light on for them. Darkness can cause the imagination to run rampant.
Well, “feeling creepy” is all the evidence I require. Case closed–it’s haunted. But then I’m not a Virgo.
This woman is surprised her daughter sees ghosts after watching Ghost Hunters? Shocking! Children usually aren’t at all impressionable. (And then she tells her that her eyes are just playing tricks on her.)
The younger daughter cries when she has to go to her room or to bed? Another surprise! Children normally react very positively to being punished and having to go to bed.
This woman is a true believer and is leading her children into providing testimony to support her beliefs. What a shame. Her magical thinking will no doubt make her daughters reject reality and think the same way.

You should be able to locate investigators in your area through the listed web site.
Your not crazy, and to see you have a little sense of humor in your title =) is good….. you need to get a hold of a local priest or a group who studies this. Well if you moved out, then i guess not, but no worries, i don’t think ur nuts
