Think About ‘Language’

Try you think of something that cannot be described by means of language. If you think of something, regardless of what it be, and you can describe it in words, then, you must move on to something else!Is it a difficult task?Surely, the English language (and any other, for that matter) cannot be efficient enough to properly describe, portray, and communicate all of existence, can it?

“The limits of my language are the limits of my world.”

Top 17 Movie Quotes Ever Spoken (From the Ears of a Child of the 80’s)

Just like background music is the soundtrack to our day, movie quotes have the ability to stir up memories of days gone by while usually adding a smirk and a giggle to any humdrum day. For this reason, I have decided to compile a list of favorite movie quotes stemming from the golden age of Hollywood to the present times. Please note that not all of these are of the typical sort that you might find on your average list, but those spoken in different context and utilized in today’s society to mean much more than their original use, usually vocalized with the appropriate accent and followed by a chuckle. Lots of research went into this one, so I truly hope you enjoy it, all the while sparking some memories of your own.

#17- “You can’t handle the truth!”

— Col. Nathan Jessep (Jack Nicholson) screams this line after he takes the stand in court in the 1992 flick “A Few Good Men”. Tom Cruise (Lt. Daniel Kaffee) is chosen to be the defendants’ attorney after a long history of settling cases out of court. After he decides to give this case his all, the two defendant marines are tried and convicted of killing a fellow combatian, even after Jessep ordered the “Code Red”. Don’t worry, Jack Nicholson was hauled out of court, too!

#16- “I feel the need — the need for speed!”

— Lt. Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise) and Lt. Nick “Goose” Bradshaw (Anthony Edwards), from “Top Gun”. (1986) And just who didn’t want to join the military after seeing this movie for the hundredth time! Believe it or not, there are still some former children of the eighties that haven’t viewed this classic, but for the rest of us, Goose went on to a somewhat successful career of a doctor on NBC’s ER before dying on that show, too.

#15- “I’ll have what she’s having.”

— Customer from the infamous resturant scene in When Harry Met Sally… (1989) Anyone who lived through this year has got to know what I’m talking about. Meg Ryan? Billy Crystal? Bringing back any memories for ya? [Read more →]

What Are Compound Butters?

A Compound Butter is  a butter mixed with more ingredients.  These ingredients are added by either chopping, pureed or mixed to change the color and or flavors of butter.  To make a compound butter you need to first soften the butter by whipping it and then ingredients need to be added and whipped into it.  A favorite of mine is to create 4 or 5 different compound butters and serve them with different breads as a great appetizer.  I usually taste the butter as I add in the extra ingredient till I get the desired flavor I want.  Here are a list of easy to make compound butters: [Read more →]

Thought Points

Me being adept in the skillful art of procrastinating, am faced with several papers and tests due in a few days, so, this will not be an in depth essay as much as it will be a few, perhaps abstract points:

- The purpose of evolution, from what I’ve known, is for one organism to be more efficient in its way of survival. A bird’s beak is too short to reach far enough into a certain flower, so said bird’s offspring is born with longer beaks (to give a simplified example).

If this were the case, would it not be most efficient for, instead of us (apparently, through billions of years) evolving into such separate, distinct and complex lifeforms – for everything to simply be one large, ever-expanding, blob of gel? I’d have to say that being a blob, resistant to many forms of weather, disease and the like, which feeds off of everything around it, constantly grows, has no predators (for there would only be one form of life), etc. is a much more efficient form of survival – and ensures living far more than what we have now. Top 17 Worst Song Lyrics Ever Performed

I know you’ve done it. We’ve all done it. A song comes on the radio…you’re listening desperately to try and figure out the words. Suddenly, “what did he just say?” is the initial reaction that comes out of your mouth! Did they really just say that? Couldn’t they have thought of something else?

When I first began my quest to create this list, my initial reaction was to simply state: “Every song lyric ever written by Nickelback.” These boys drive me absolutely insane. I cannot tolerate them on the radio for more than a quick second before a deathly scowl comes across my face, a look that I’m sure resembles the same one as when I drive to the “transfer station” in town to unload my recycleables and household waste.

But the question on most of our minds is, quite simply put, “WHY?” Why on earth did someone write this lyric? Are your creative impulses as such a lull that you really couldn’t find anything else? Did you call someone for assistance? Even “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” has lifelines; maybe you should have a few stockpiled for reference as well.

So here we go! After months of research and lending a heartfelt ear to the music industry, this is THE list of “The 17 Worst Song Lyrics Ever Performed”: [Read more →]
