Top 17 Things To Do In NewHampshire
I have been coming to Newhampshire since I could remember. Vacations every year up from RI was something to look forward to. Most people think of New Hampshire as a winter wonderland with skiing and snow mobiling but I always loved the Summer and Fall. Here is a list of my favorite things to do in no particular order here in NH:
Kancamagus Highway: Its a beautiful 45 minute drive though awesome mountains and vistas. I have seen Moose there and deer. You can stop by the rocks and take a swim in the cold mountain water. There are plenty of trails, waterfalls and campsites. Campsites are minimum charge but everything else is FREE!
The Basin: A beautiful pool of crystal clear water. It is a short hike to this awesome natural wonder but it is worth it. Again it is FREE! Take time to relax around it and eat a picnic.
Storyland: I have been going there since I was a baby. I brought my children when they was babies. I look forward to going there when they have babies. This place is a class act and if you cannot make Disney go there. Even their prices on food was reasonable!
Clarks Trading Post: I love this place so much. They have rides, bear shows, and museums. Get a nice ride in a train and all kinds of fun crazy other attractions. If I have to pick one it is this one. My wife was pregnant and got so sick in this place. Scram You Old Goat!!! Anyone know what that means? Lisa don’t answer!
Attitash Alpine Slide: Kind of scary when you go down fast but so much fun. I did it when I was little with my sisters. We had a great time because you can control the speed in which you go down the mountain. To get up to the beginning of the slide you need to take the ski lift so that is fun also. I need to bring my kids now. They now have a water park.
Lake Winnipesaukee: The boats, restaurants, beaches, shops, hotels, motels, bikers weekend, and the fun! Entertainment with water-slides or just hanging out. This place is a great family vacation.
Mt. Monadnock: They say it is the most climbed mountain in the world and I believe it. On Columbus day weekend you can stand in line near the top of the white dot trail. It has breathtaking vista and is a jewel of Southern NH. I am luck to live near it and see it every morning. People come from all over to view its fall foliage and check out the snow cap in the winter.
Mt. Washington Auto Road: The largest mountain in the Northeast home of the worst weather conditions in the world. The auto road takes you to the top of Mt. Washington where you can visit vistas that can see 5 states and into Canada. The highest clocked wind speeds ever where measured at the weather station. This is truly an awesome experience.
Santa’s Village: This is like storyland and I have been there when I was a tike and when my children where small. Meet Santa, 3d movie about Santa, amusement rides and even meet his reindeer. Great place for a family to remember Christmas in the summer. They also never forgot the true meaning of Christmas at this classic New England Tradition.
Cannon Mountain: Take a ride up the tran any time of the year. It is an awesome experience. Get to explore the top of the mountain and all NH has to offer. Fall is best to ride the top but as you can see skiiers ride it during the winter to ski down the trails. Fun family classic.
Indianhead: You can see it from the highway but why not stop at the gift shop across the street. When you look up you can see the mountain shaped like an indian head. Unfortunately Old Man of the Mountain fell down and was located right down the highway. Stop by and say hi. My daughter was freaked out by this one when she was little.
Franconia Notch: Right down the road from Indianhead, the flume, Old Man of the Mountain, Cannon, Twin Mountains and the Basin. Beautiful drive with nice views.
Crawford Notch: Drive down this notch and get awesome views of Mt. Washington. What a beautiful drive this one is.
Covered bridges: Last I knew there was over 68 covered bridges all around NH. Take a weekend and see how many you can find! Check the pictures out here http://www.pbase.com/ejohnw/covered_bridges
North Conway: Every-time I go on vacation up north in NH we seem to always trek over to North Conway. There are tons of little shops, outlets and amusements to keep any family busy. Down the road is Storyland and Mt. Washington. Its a must stop for a NH vacation.
Loon Mountain: I vacationed at Loon Mountain for about 8 years in a row. Skiing in the winter is awesome but in the summer the mountain comes alive. There is horseback riding, special events and even mountain biking. At the base of the mountain the Kancamagus highway begins. When I was little I spend many a day relaxing in the rocks of the river.
The Flume Gorge: This stunning natural wonder will leave you spellbound as you stroll the path from the Visitors Center to the Flume and back. You’ll walk among towering moss-covered granite walls, past cascading waterfalls, historic covered bridges, glacial boulders and much more.
