A Letter to Dear Abby…Signed by “Clueless”

Yet another hysterical email came across my desk this morning, and I felt the need to share it with the world again. Many thanks to my friend Sharon who sent me this…I couldn’t have said it better myself:

Dear Abby,

My husband is a liar and a cheat. He has cheated on me from
the beginning, and, when I confront him, he denies everything.
What’s worse, everyone knows that he cheats on me. It is so
humiliating. Also, since he lost his job eight years ago, he hasn’t even
looked for a new one. All he does all day is smoke cigars, cruise
around and “B.S.” With his buddies while I have to work to pay the bills.
Since our daughter went away to college he doesn’t even pretend to like
me and hints that I may be a lesbian. What should I do?

Signed: Clueless

Dear Clueless,

Grow up and dump him. Good grief, woman – you don’t need him
anymore! You’re a United States Senator from New York running for
President of the United States. Act like one.

Parkinson’s Law And The Peter Principle

Parkinson’s Law  As a manager for a fine retail establishment I often use Sociology without even knowing it.  Actually many managers and successful businesses use Sociology to not only establish standards but to often put people into a position where they will most likely succeed.  They actually have a name for this!  It is called Scientific Management.  It is the application of scientific principles to the operation of a business or large organization.  Two such applications I use on a regular basis are Parkinson’s Law and the Peter Principle.

Parkinson’s Law is basically defined as the job takes as much time as the job is allowed.  [Read more →]

Top 17 Forgotten Cocktails From The Early 1900′s

Absinthe

Many years ago I inherited an old portable liquor cabinet.  Inside this liquor cabinet I found many little treasures like pre world war drink stirrers with little whistles on them, old drink coasters with in that day scantly clad women on them and some great cocktail recipe books.  I will give you my favorite recipes of drinks you probably never heard of, tried or want to try but where very popular back in the day.  If you can find the ingredients try them and tell me what you like:

  • Black Stripe:
    • 1.5 oz. Jamaican Rum
    • 1 teaspoon Molasses
  •  1934:
    • 3/4 ounce Dry Gin
    • 3/4 ounce orange Curacao
    • 3/4 ounce lemon juice
    • 3/4 ounce jamaican Rum
    • 3/4 ounce Grenandine
    • Shake together ingredients and pour into glass.  It if first prepared by rubbing the lip of the glass witha slice of lemon and dipping into sugar.  This is a prize winning cocktail from International Bar Mixers union at Frankfurt Oct. 1934.
  • Pink Lady:
    • 1 1/2 ounces of dry Gin
    • 1 white of an egg
    • 3/4 ounce of Grenadine.
    • Shake well with ice and strain into a glass
  • Maple Leaf:
    • 3/4 ounce Canadian Whiskey
    • 3/4 ounce pure maple syrup
    • 3/4 ounce lemon juice
    • Shake with ice and strain into a glass
  • Black Velvet:
    • Fill glass half way with Guiness Stout
    • Add champagne
    • Stir slowly.  A morning drink, once referred to as “The Boss’s Drink”.
  • Blue Blazer: (try this one)
    • This a cold weather drink good for the chills.  It  mixing apparatus, and its preparation today is seldom if ever attempted.  Take 2 metal mugs or 2 heavy bar glasses. In one mug dissolve a teaspoon of powdered sugar in a little water.  Add 3 oz. of boiling water.  In the other mug pour 3 oz. whiskey or brandy , ignite.  Hurl the ignited liquor into the mug containing the hot water and pour back and forth rapidly.  This should be done spectacularly to give the effect of a stream of liquid fire.  Pour into a glass-prepared with a twist of lemon peel.

Top 17 Things To Do Or See In Rhode Island

I have lived in Rhode Island all my life but recently moved to New Hampshire.  I will always consider myself a Rhode Islander and miss the simple things Rhode Island has to offer.  Here is my top 17 things to do, see, or eat in Rhode Island:

  • Dells Lemonade  Dells Lemonade: I may have to explain what this is because when I moved to NH no one knew what I was talking about.  When you say Lemonade in RI your talking Frozen Slushy Lemonade not that watery stuff everywhere else in the world.  We have trucks that drive around RI selling this wonderful gift from GOD!  This last summer I took some NH friends to a RI beach and introduced them to Frozen Lemonade (Dell’s).  He tried to drink it with a straw!  You don’t drink it with a straw you squeeze the cup into your mouth.  I guess you need to live in RI to understand our way of life!
  • Coffee Milk  Coffee Milk:  You don’t even understand!  This is the coffeeiest, creamiest, cold comfort food in RI! Kids in RI don’t grown up drinking Chocolate milk they drink Coffee Milk!  Nothing better then going to the New York System getting some weinies(RI residents know what I mean I will tell you more later on) , fries and washing it down with this wonderful bit of heaven.

  • Hot Weiner:I love these things.  They are also called gaggas!  When I was little my grandmother took me to this place.  When I was older I went there with my friends after a night of partying.  If you purchase these pieces of love you and put them in your car you will have a new air freshener for weeks!  They are probably the lowest grade of hotdog (almost white on the inside with little bones every so often) topped with mustard, a wonderful greasy seasoned meat sauce, finally chopped onions with and celery salt. They wrap them in paper and everything gets squished and greasy.   The chef (hahahaha) lines them up his bare arm like in the picture and makes them right in front of you.  Sweat and all.  You have to see this!

Live Free or Die in New Hampshire! Just Hope You Don’t Need any Help!

I have spent the last week working on a writing project to help desperate homeowners find financial assistance to pay their mortgage. As a creative financer myself (family of 4 living in southern New Hampshire), I have concocted valuable ways to make money stretch beyond the forces of nature. I thought that I could use my life experiences, research abilities and my Internet savvy to help. For the most part, my project is going along quite well. I’ve hit a few bumps in the road, as well as quite a few dead ends, but all in all, it’s going according to plan.

Some of the feds on Capitol Hill don’t want to “bail out” American families who got in over their heads with a mortgage that they didn’t completely understand, or assumed that the real estate bubble was going to keep expanding thus creating equity in their homes and leaving lots of room for refinancing down the road. These feds are typically of the conservative nature and would much rather bail out the mortgage lenders in a few years than help the citizens that pay their salaries.

Here’s what happened.

In 2005, the feds began [Read more →]

Taliban And Their Treatment Of Women

Taliban Execution   Taliban Beating

I keep hearing in the news the laws created by the Taliban and how cruel they are to women.  I decided to put together a list to consolidate and prove that this group is barbarick and stone age. Anyone who supports these laws and rules need to be educated and modernized into this century.  I feel it is sad that people think this way about anyone.

Here is a list of rules the Taliban have for women:

  • Women should not appear in the streets without a blood relative or without wearing a Burqa
  • Women should not wear high-heeled shoes as no man should hear a woman’s footsteps lest it excite him.
  • Women must not speak loudly in public as no stranger should hear a woman’s voice
  • All ground and first floor residential windows should be painted over or screened to prevent women being visible from the street.  A Taliban representative explained that “the face of a woman is a source of corruption for men who are not related to them”.
  • The photographing or filming of women was banned as was displaying pictures of females in newspapers, books, shops or the home.
  • The modification of any place names that included the word “women.” For example, “women’s garden” was renamed “spring garden”.
  • Women were forbidden to appear on the balconies of their apartments or houses.

What Causes the Price Of Gas To Rise?

  Gasoline

Even though there are issues throughout the world. Has the war on terror has put stress on the United States’ relationship with the Middle East?  Why does the killing of Muslim extremists causes the price to sky rocket?  Why do we continue to put so much dependency on oil?  These questions boggle my mind knowing that we have the capability of pooling our resources and begin to find alternative fuels. The technology is attainable but  the public needs to accept alternative fuels.

Gas prices have been skyrocketing all over the world, but what makes this happen?  The first thing we need to look at is how the price of a gallon of gas in generated.  The price of gas in April averaged $2.74 per gallon.  We need to break down that price to see exactly where most of the cost comes from.  The price per gallon is broken down as followed:  17% taxes, 3% distribution and marketing, 26% refining, and 54% is the cost of crude oil.  Rising crude oil is a major reason we see a large increase in price at the pump.  In January 2005 the price of West Texas crude oil was [Read more →]
