Circumcision Of Girls

 Female Circumcision

The circumcising of girls is still a common procedure in a number of Arab countries such as Egypt, the Sudan, Yemen and some of the Gulf States.  The importance given to virginity and an intact hymn in these societies is the reason why female circumcision still remains a wide spread practice.  The reason for removing of a girls’ external genital organs is the minimization of sexual desire .  This permits a female, who has reached the dangerous age of puberty and adolescence to protect her virginity.

Circumcision is most often performed on a female at the age of seven or eight (before the girl begins to get menstrual periods). Two women members of the family grasp the child’s thighs on either side and pull.  A sharp razor in the hand of the daya cuts off the clitoris.  They say it is like trussing a chicken.

Many times a physician was called upon  to treat complications arising from this primitive operation, which very often jeopardized the life of young girls.  The ignorant daya believed that effective circumcision necessitated a deep cut with the razor to ensure radical amputation of the clitoris, so that no part of the sexually sensitive organ would remain.  Severe hemorrhage was therefor a common occurrence and sometimes led to loss of life.

The life long psychological shock of this cruel procedure left its imprint on the personality of the child and accompanied her into adolescence, youth and maturity.  In recent years , however, educated families have begun to realize the harm that is done by the practice.

Nevertheless a majority of families still impose on young female children the barbaric and cruel operation of circumcision.  Dr. Nawal El Saadawi research carried out a sample of 160 Egyptian girls and women showed 97.5% of uneducated families still insisted on maintaining the custom, but this percentage dropped to 66.2% among educated families.

Many people think that female circumcision only started with the advent of Islam.  But as a matter of fact it was well known and wide spread in some areas of the world before the Islamic era, including the Arab peninsula.  Mahomet the Prophet tried to oppose this custom since he considered it harmful to the sexual health of the woman.  This means that the circumcision of girls was not originally an Islamic custom, and was not related to monotheistic religions, but was practised in societies with widely varying religious backgrounds, in countries of the East and the West, and among peoples who believed in Christianity, or in Islam, or were atheistic.

The source of information is from Nawal El Saadawi.  She is an Egyptian physician and feminist writer whose word publicizing the injustices and brutalities to which Arab women are subject is well known throughout the world. The information from her book The Hidden Face of Eve: Women in the Arab World (1980) is now banned in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Libya.

hhaha, it takes two seconds to wipe your penis off in the shower. You must be one lazy #$@% if you think hygine is a good reason to chop off the nerve endings around your dick.

Heard about this last week from a young Pakistani man that was very well versed on anti-muslim western propaganda. He told me about female circumcision and how the west paints it as “cutting off the clitoris or the ‘sexual sensitive area’”. This isn’t the case in the MAJORITY of female circumcision in the Arab world where the circumcision is a HARMLESS procedure that is exactly like the male version we have to remove foreskin.

The only difference is they have less and it isn’t as easy as circumcising a male but it is not what this fucking liar is posting.

PROPAGANDA ALERT.

You people aren’t focusing on the issue at hand. It is not the same as male circumcision, in that males can still experience sexual pleasure without foreskin. Removing a females clitoris means that she feels no sensation whatsoever. This is a barbaric example of an attempt to control female sexuality, plain and simple.

patrick is right. i actually took a class which focused a substantial amount on female circumcision. when asked if they regret or could have opted out, most women living in the culture who have been circumcised said they wouldn’t. deaths and complications are not common and could be caused lack of willing doctors/funding due to the negative connotations. its a cultural thing, like piercings, corsets, foot binding etc. this topic needs some cultural relativism to be understood.

Female circumcision isnt wise @ all. They cut off the genitalia of the females while in the males, they just remove the foreskin. Why don’t they cut off the male genitals entirely?
