My Turn

Wethepeople

That’s all I can stands, I can’t stands no more!”, borrowing a phrase from a well-known cartoon character, as he squeezed a can of spinach into his mouth creating a powerful force to fight evil. I am at that point today.

I have always heard it said never discuss politics or religion. But this is My Turn and I will talk about both, along with a healthy dose of “Media Coverage”.

We the People. . .is a powerful phrase that I have believed in since I learned about the Constitution in school, protected its ideals during the war years of my military career, and  believe in today as we watch and participate in the 2008 election process.

My comments are not partisan in nature. I believe they are appropriate to all of us, liberals, conservatives, libertarians, democrats, republicans or independents. Whatever labels we apply to ourselves, we together are “We the People”.

To me, “We the People” determine who will represent us at all levels of our government, local, state, and national. “We the People” provide the insight and the desire that allow our elected officials to formalize our wants and needs consistent with the constitution.

Nowhere in our constitution, and I looked, does it say that “We the People” authorize the media to decide for us who our government officials should be and what our structure of laws should look like.

What is it that has gotten “under my skin?”

I am tired of  the “media” telling me that this candidate or the other candidate is NOT ELECTABLE! How does the media know that? “We the People” cast votes, WE elect the candidate we want, not the media.

I am tired of the  “experts” that are paid to appear on CNN, Fox News, and several radio stations tell me what is important to consider when I cast my ballot. They have never asked me what I consider important. One thing is for sure, I am not voting for a crazy preacher who leads the church where a prominent candidate attended. . I seem to have missed his name on any ballot that I have seen. But just last night, according to Fox News Network, 70% of the people polled said that was their major concern!

I guess that $4.00 a gallon gas, dropping home prices, exorbitant health care costs, no jobs, an economy that is in the tank, and a dollar that is causing problems all over the world don’t count.

I am tired of Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Michael Graham and Jay Severin telling me what to believe and if I don’t believe,  I am wrong. Or worse, telling me that I should vote for one candidate or another so that the “right” candidate will be eventually elected.

I believe the voting system in our country works. When “We the People” make mistakes, “We the People” correct them. It appears to me that the media wants to be the all powerful force that causes laws to change and people to be elected.

Hillary Clinton appeared on the Bill O’Reilly show last night. I heard one of the Fox day time hosts say that Hillary Clinton now stands a great chance to win the election. She should thank Bill O’Reilly and Fox News.

If Hillary wins, she should thank “We the People”!! That’s the group that made it happen. The “Best Political Team on Television” at CNN and the “Fair and Balanced Kens and Barbies  of Fox News really do not know more than you or I. They have a stage to present their ideas. “We the People” understand what is needed and who will best give it to us.

Is anyone out in the cyber world that agrees with me or am I the only one. If I am alone, I guess it will be a long, uphill battle. But I have stockpiled a great deal of spinach and I believe that an election is won one vote at a time. One vote of one person added to the one votes of several people combine to create “We the People”, the most powerful concept in
America.  That’s my opinion.

Right on, brother! The media has it’s head up its butt most of the time, and listening to them wax poetic about things that mean absolutely nothing to most Americans is really frustrating. Go Obama. We the People are ready for a change!

Welcome Bob! Awesome first post. I have to agree with you, so I do not have anything to debate with you on that subject. Great points! I look forward to more of your thoughts.
