It was my first job out of high school. Both the Scrunch Bar and OOMPAS were made in a factory located in a suburb of St. Louis, MO (Afton, MO). The name of the company who produced the candy was called Concorde Confections and they were under contract with the Quaker Oats Company who at that time (1971-) had the license to produce the Willie Wonka Candies. It was a super clean facility and at times we produced as many as 500,000 bars a day. My job was to form the slab of rice Krispies and Peanut butter that would later be sliced and cut into bars and then enrobed in milk chocolate. We also made Tangy Taffy and Christy Bars (they had white chocolate on the outside like a Mars Bar). The company also produced Sunline Sun Flower Seeds. If anybody at Nestle is listening, I’m available to help bring them back! I remember it like it was yesterday.
