Michael Savage Should Be Fired?

Michael Savage

I used to listen to Michael Savage 6 years back because he was so extremely out of touch with society that “I got a kick out of it.”

In July, 2008 Savage made this controversial statement about autism on his radio show:

Now, the illness du jour is autism. You know what autism is? I’ll tell you what autism is. In 99 percent of the cases, it’s a brat who hasn’t been told to cut the act out. That’s what autism is. What do you mean they scream and they’re silent? They don’t have a father around to tell them, “Don’t act like a moron. You’ll get nowhere in life. Stop acting like a putz. Straighten up. Act like a man. Don’t sit there crying and screaming, idiot.” Autism—everybody has an illness. If I behaved like a fool, my father called me a fool. And he said to me, “Don’t behave like a fool.” The worst thing he said—”Don’t behave like a fool. Don’t be anybody’s dummy. Don’t sound like an idiot. Don’t act like a girl. Don’t cry.” That’s what I was raised with. That’s what you should raise your children with. Stop with the sensitivity training. You’re turning your son into a girl, and you’re turning your nation into a nation of losers and beaten men. That’s why we have the politicians we have.

On July 21, 2008, several dozen parents and grandparents of autistic children picketed outside the studios of WOR in New York, calling for Savage to be fired and for commercial sponsors to withdraw their advertising from his program. In response, WOR issued a statement saying, “We regret any consternation that his remarks may have caused to our listeners.” That evening, Savage devoted his entire 3-hour program to the subject, taking calls from parents who took issue with his comments. He still insisted, however, that his remarks had been “ripped out of context” by “far left Stalinists”.

On July 21, 2008, Supertalk Mississippi dropped Savage’s radio program due to comments made regarding autistic children.

Should Mr. Savage be fired?  I believe he says things just for the lime light and we as listeners tune in.  He knew making such crude statements would put him in the news once again.  If he is not bashing Muslims or bashing gays he needs to bash something or someone.  Should we fire him?  No, if you don’t want to listen to him then don’t tune in.  Just because I bash Savage should I be fired from Learnsomethingnewtoday.us ?

What other controversies did he speak about:

  • In March 2006, Savage drew the ire of the Catholic community when he accused the Catholic Church of breaking federal law by giving assistance to illegal immigrants (in response to statements by Roger Cardinal Mahony of Los Angeles calling it “pastoral support”). William A. Donohue, the president of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, was scheduled to be on the show that day but was refused after he became upset upon hearing Savage’s language. Later he responded by saying “what is not fine is Savage’s diatribe about the ‘greedy pigs’ in the Catholic Church and how ‘the institution is rotten from the top to the bottom.’ He owes all Catholics an apology.” On March 28, 2006, Savage encouraged his listeners to burn Mexican flags to counter a pro-immigration group that had burned American flags.
  • On his July 5, 2007 radio broadcast, commenting on students’ fasting in protest of the lack of immigration reform, Savage said, “I would say, let them fast until they starve to death; then that solves the problem.” The San Francisco Board of Supervisors had previously introduced a resolution that commended the student protest. Over a month after the broadcast, the Board of Supervisors introduced a resolution that “condemns the defamatory language used by radio personality Michael Savage against the immigrant community”, claiming that Savage “urged the death of those students.” The resolution contains a whereas clause noting a community-organized vigil to take place outside the offices of the KNEW radio station on August 15, calling for the “termination” of the The Savage Nation radio program. Voted on on August 14, 2007, the resolution was one vote short of being passed unanimously by the Board. The city attorney stated that although the resolution did condemn Savage, it did not violate any of his constitutional rights.
  • In early November 2007, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has called on radio listeners to contact companies that advertise on Savage’s program to express their concerns about what they deemed as anti-Muslim bigotry. Savage was quoted as saying, that Muslims, at least, “need deportation”; and adherents of Islam would do well to “take your religion and shove it up your behind” because “I’m sick of you.” On his show and website, Savage has countered that CAIR is linked to terrorist organizations. On November 8, 2007, Citrix Systems, Inc. pulled its advertisements from his show based on the recent comments. On November 15, Office Max followed suit. TrustedID also dropped their sponsorship of The Savage Nation, but according to their CEO this was due to lack of sales and not anything Savage had said. Savage sued CAIR for its use, on its website, of excerpts from his show. The suit charged CAIR with copyright infringement and alleged that CAIR’s “repackaging” of Savage’s comments was “deliberately designed to obscure the specific message conveyed by Michael Savage”. The excerpts included Savage’s characterization of the Qur’an as “a throwback document” and a “book of hate”. CAIR called the suit “bizarre, sloppy and baseless”. On December 17, the New York Times published an article discussing Savage’s dispute with CAIR.  In the article, Savage was quoted as saying, “If they are trying to hang me by my own petard, they have no right to use my petard. It’s my petard, not theirs.” The federal judge hearing the case, tentatively dismissed Savage’s lawsuit, finding CAIR’s position to be persuasive, though allowed Savage to refile the suit and fix its defects
  • on July 7, Savage was fired from his MSNBC television show after remarks made in response to a caller, later identified as prank caller Bob Foster, who insulted Savage’s teeth. Savage then asked if Foster was a “sodomite”, to which the caller answered, “Yes.” Savage then said to the caller, “Oh, so you’re one of those sodomites. You should only get AIDS and die, you pig; how’s that? Why don’t you see if you can sue me, you pig? You got nothing better to do than to put me down, you piece of garbage? You got nothing to do today? Go eat a sausage, and choke on it. Get trichinosis. Now do we have another nice caller here who’s busy because he didn’t have a nice night in the bathhouse who’s angry at me today? Put another, put another sodomite on….no more calls?…I don’t care about these bums; they mean nothing to me. They’re all sausages.” The day after being fired, Savage apologized on his radio program and on his website. He explained that he believed that MSNBC had gone to commercial to cover the gaffe of the attempted sabotage by a prank caller and that he was off the air at the time of the offensive comments. He also said his remarks were meant only to insult the caller, not all people with AIDS

What have we learned about Michael Savage?  He is a millionaire because he knows how to push buttons.  I wish I thought about it before he did!  What is your thoughts?

This is actually Lisa….My laptop is down and I’m on DJL’s. In order to not screw up his system, I am writing this under his account.

To Michael Savage- Someone that I’ve always considered a moron and never anything close to funny.

My 10 year old son is on the Autism Spectrum.

My son is far from perfect, and his biggest problem is his lack of empathy. He just doesn’t have the ability to put himself in anyone’s situation. He rarely feels “bad” about things, unless he is told it’s bad and the bearer of the news is using an angry voice. He has to be taught all of these things that come naturally to the “normies”. Have you ever taught someone how to cry? Have you ever thought about why you cry? Have you ever thought about teaching someone how you feel when you are sad or upset? Go for yours, Mr. Savage.

Loud noises, such as thunderstorms and fire drills send a shockwave through his system like nothing I’ve ever seen. He trembles uncontrollably and usually screams the same way. He stares at people because he gets fixated on something about them, perhaps their hair or an article of clothing. He has to be taught that getting fixated on people is bad, and at some point in the future, he will have to be taught sommon things, like how to socially “ride a bus”—for his own safety. Have you ever had a clinical psychologist tell you that your child will have to be taught these skills for his own safety? Do you have any idea how that feels? Do you understand the lump that’s in mus stomach every time I think about that—and it was over 4 years ago that I was given this information. Every day I pray to the God I know to get my son through his day safely, for things that he has no control over are the one’s that are most vital to his survival in this world.

Kids in wheelchairs will never be picked on in school—it wouldn’t be tolerated. Some of these children unfortunately have no control over their arms or legs—is that in their head, too? Are they being spoiled brats who simply want attention and don’t want to have to walk? I don’t think so.

My question to you is this: Have you ever spoken to a child with Autism? If you had, you’d have a much better understanding of the situation than you obviously do. If said autistic child looks you in the eye or speaks in a full sentence by age 5, you’re one of the lucky few.

Their minds are at a level that you nor anyone else could ever comprehend. My son has been drawing with the most amazing detail since the age of 2 1/2, but didn’t speak until he was nearly 3. Even then, he would say “car” and “bus”…and that was it.

Have you ever had your child (God bless the child if you have them) not look you in the eye? Has your child been calling you “dad” since they were 1? My son didn’t say “mommy” until he was nearly 4. He started saying “I love you” when he was 6, and still won’t say “good-bye” because it’s just too permanent in his opinion.

7 years of speech and language therapy has brought this boy up to a level that is almost equivalent with his peers. Still he falls behind in many areas, mostly due to a lack of “empathy”, which is very common among those on the spectrum. For example, it’s tough to learn about the Pilgrims coming over on the Mayflower and suffering extreme hardships when you don’t have the ability to put yourself in their position. My son does, however, exceed in math and art. He mumbles a lot, has an oral fixaction, and levels of OCD that vary with his passing moods. He gets “obsessed” with objects easily.

I once read a blog online in which 2 women were complaining about autism, and how there isn’t an uprising of mothers complaining and demanding a cure for Cerebral Palsy, but there was certainly an outrage for Autism. I kept my opinion to myself., which was quite simply this: Any mother that has a child with any disability, whether it be physical or mental, wants there to be a cure, you just don’t hear about it as often because Cerebral Palsy doesn’t affect a in every 150 kids like Autism does. If it did, like the “cancer clusters” in the US (Erin Brokovich), trust me, you’d hear about it.

In closing, I don’t wish anything bad on anyone as a general rule, but you, sir, are a douchebag and I hope you burn in hell.

Sincerely,
Lisa Laprade

For anyone who loves freedom, the defeat of the Savage lawsuit is a cause for celebration.
Savage hookwinked us all by telling us that this lawsuit was a cause for free speech. Yeah, it was about free speech but it was CAIR’s free speech that was being infringed, not Savage’s. Indeed, if Savage had prevailed, first amendment rights would have lessened for all of us.
America is such a great country that we even extend free speech to questionable organisations like CAIR.
Michael Savage is an ENEMY of free speech:

Savage’s statements were taken way out of context. He was merely stating how the American medical system over prescribes and over diagnosis illnesses. Do you think all children currently taking drugs for ADD and ADHD really need them? That is ridicoulous if you do. Most kids don’t need the drug they just need proper parenting. Our politically correct and liberal society is causing us to be soft as people and a nation. This is what Savage is saying in a very abrasive way. You should not dismiss Savage only because he is abrasive. He has some very valid insight and viewpoints that should be listened to.
