Polygamy, Rape, and Religious Conspiracy

What do polygamy, rape, and religious conspiracy have to do with one another? Meet the Mormon Church and disciple Warren Steed Jeffs who calls himself a prophet and revealer of “God’s will.” He is a perverter of truth, who like his father the devil, cleverly twists and distorts Scripture to serve His own ends (Psalm 91:10-11; Matthew 4:5-6). Jeffs is a modern day example reminding us that false religious doctrine is a poison pill infecting society.

Warren Steed Jeffs (born December 3, 1955 in San Francisco, California) is the President of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. FLDS is one of a number of sects that broke away from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when the LDS denounced polygamy in 1890. As president of the FLDS Church, Jeffs is considered by faithful members to be a “prophet”, “seer”, and “revelator of God’s will” on behalf of humanity.

Here again is another case in point of how false doctrine leads to [Read more →]

Funny Top Ten Lists and the Female Sense of Humor

Most attempts to explain the nature of the female sense of humor have focused upon two closely related questions: How does a woman’s sense of humor differ from that of a man? And secondly, what topics do women find funny?

There is a general consensus that the answers are as follows: Men enjoy a brand of humor that relies upon insensitive put downs and insults to make fun of other people with whom they do not closely identify.

The serious side of humor.

Unfortunately, this traditional focus upon finding out exactly what makes women laugh has caused us to overlook the fact that humor actually serves a much higher purpose in our lives: Namely, finding a suitable mate!

In order to more fully understand the ways in which humor operates between the sexes, we must [Read more →]

Do you ever wonder why the news is so depressing? It’s because it isn’t designed to build you up and encourage you. Journalism has strayed pretty far from just reporting the facts. But, there’s an old saying: “If it bleeds, it leads.” That means the story that is the most tragic, dramatic, horrific, or negative, is usually the lead story. And that applies to TV, radio, and newspapers.

But have you ever noticed how you feel after watching the news on TV? Are you refreshed, enthused and inspired? Like me, you probably don’t feel happy, elated or encouraged, do you?

A lot has happened in our country in the past year. As a result of what people know, or, what they think they know, many choose to criticize and blame. And of course to validate their feelings, they simply [Read more →]

How To Make Stuffed Nasturtiums

Imagine a vibrant burst of red, yellow and orange nasturtium flowers in your kitchen or herb garden.

Peppery and elegant, these fabulous bright blooms add the aesthetics of style and pizzazz as prolific blooms bordering the garden patch, trailing down a hanging basket and clipped to use in culinary creations.

When I owned Canopy Rose Catering, a Tallahassee Florida business that specialized in designing and catering high end events, Nasturtiums were a popular seasonal garnish that added a little bit of wow to delicious presentations.

From Floating Nasturtiums in stemmed goblets of Iced Vichyssoise (an exquisite potato leek bisque) to Herbal Cream Cheese Stuffed Nasturtiums, guests loved the unique spicy taste of these delicate edible flowers.
