Music Reviews Not Always Objective

Those who write music reviews are almost always music lovers, and they will often listen to a piece of music again and again to discover all the nuances and sensations the piece can offer. Depending on the music reviewer, their opinions may or not be objective.

Music reviewers are in the business of rating music, and sometimes a music review will contain a comparison of songs or albums to an artist’s previous releases. A music review may contain the writer’s opinion on whether or not the piece will be a hit or a flop, whether it is worth the asking price, and whether or not the artists should expect to have longevity in the music business.

Often, the professional music reviewer will specialize in reviewing music that is of a particular genre. For instance, those with expertise in classical music will not usually spend much time listening to and reviewing [Read more →]

How to Write Best-Seller Book Reviews on Amazon

Many people think of Amazon as an amazing site where they can buy books or personal electronics items. What’s not to like about Amazon, its ease of use, helpful shopping venues, and excellent customer service? While all of this is great for Amazon fans, for the past 5 years I have followed the progress and development of Amazon’s various user platforms with equal interest. I must admit that Amazon is now one of my favorite sites to visit – mainly because of its success in meeting the needs of its users.

To tell you a secret, I often visit Amazon several times a week “just to hang out” or to see “what’s new”! If you have not visited this site recently, you might be pleasantly surprised by all the “buzz” going on at Amazon. However, if you are already a fan of Amazon, you might visit occasionally to check out the price of a book or camera that you intend to buy or, like me, you may have become more involved in what is now called [Read more →]

Tips for Teaching Autistic Children Reading Skills

Teaching autistic children reading skills can be a daunting task. Some children will never read, but many higher functioning children can learn to some extent and can end up being excellent readers.

Teaching autistic children to read has a very unique set of challenges that requires a parent or teacher to have a lot of patience. It can be like teaching children without autism but with the problems magnified.

Sometimes they can be very cooperative, but for the most part, autistic children have huge problems with attention span, lack any type of motivations to learn to read, and they have problems with figuring out the rules of reading and grammar when compared to children who do not have autism.

Learning to read should be fun for any child, but when it comes to autistic children, you have to reach them [Read more →]

Know What A Good Bottle Of Wine Is, And Who Said So?

A good bottle of wine. Is there such thing as an objective quality rating? What is quality? What makes a good bottle of wine? Today, in most cases, quality is defined by the media scores a wine receives from Robert Parker and the Wine Spectator review. The system is not perfect but it’s easy for consumers to use in determining what they believe will be a good bottle of wine and, therefore, good for wine consumption.

Prior Experience – The Past is Prologue

What we believe a good bottle of wine is, is learned through prior experiences. The wine regions we’ve visited and the wines we’ve tasted shape our opinions and beliefs as to what a good bottle of wine is. Knowledge is stored in memory and retrieved to interpret future sensory experiences. It’s impossible to imagine tasting a bottle of wine without the use of memory; we are what we remember! Two tasters will inevitably have different information stored in memory and will often interpret the same bottle of wine differently.

When we describe a good bottle of wine or one less so, how much are we relying on our sense of taste and smell and how much on what we see? A fascinating wine study called [Read more →]

Why Write Movie Reviews On Old Or New Movies?

Critics write movie reviews. Well, so can you. Often times, many people only go by movie reviews that have been written by critics. This is only because they come out first, before the movie is even released. But, many times people wait to see movies until after the first weekend. Your reviews can help many reviewers decide what movies to see.

Writing movie reviews on old movies also helps viewers decide what to see. No one really wants to trust a review written 50 years ago written on Lawrence of Arabia. Not only has the time changed, but so have politics, attention span, and taste. So, writing a new movie review on an old movie can be every helpful.

If you are trying to write a review on new movies but think your reviews will not be read, you are mistaken. Often, people don’t trust the critics. They like to see what [Read more →]

Civil Unions Versus Marriage – Legally Not the Same and What That Can Mean For You

Gay marriage has a heated but short history in the U.S. In 1993, a Hawaii case got national attention which started the widespread controversy on this issue. The judges found that the state’s constitution required a compelling reason not to extend equal marriage rights to same-sex couples. In response, the ruling allowed Congress to push through the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act, which allows a state to ignore same-sex marriages performed outside its borders and prohibits federal recognition. Since the Hawaii case in 1993, states have struggled to find their own stance on the issue; in a few states this means legalized civil unions or domestic partnerships Civil unions between same-sex couples are not equal to a marriage between a man and woman.

Very few states allow civil unions in the U.S: Vermont, Connecticut, New York, New Hampshire, and New Jersey. California and Oregon allow domestic partnerships. Civil unions and domestic partnerships are very similar but every state defines them in a different way. None of the states’ same-sex laws are exactly [Read more →]

Conspiracy Theory Madness

The internet is filled with crazy conspiracy theorists and theories. You can do a simple Google search for “conspiracy theory” and come up with thousands of different theories on a whole range of topics. From the music industry is trying to plant subliminal messages in your mind to David Icke’s theory of shape shifting reptilian humanoids bent on world domination. Yes, people actually believe this stuff. All of these insane conspiracy theories have made the term “conspiracy” linked directly with “crazy”. What if an actual conspiracy is plotted and someone found out about it? It might gain some awareness in the “conspiracy community” but everyone else would just label it as crackpot nonsense.

Because of all the insane conspiracy theories that have been circulating over the years, no one would take a [Read more →]

Funny Jokes

Funny jokes are a great way to keep us all smiling and looking at life with a positive attitude. Humor is one of God’s gifts… we should act accordingly!

Here’s a joke which I find really funny…

So there’s a guy at a bar, staring blankly at his drink. He stays like that for hours. Then, this big trouble-making truck driver steps next to him, takes the drink from the guy, and just drinks it all down. The poor man cries. The truck driver says, “Come on man, I was just joking. Here, I’ll buy you another drink. I just can’t stand to see a man cry.”

“No, it’s not that. This day is the worst of my life. First, I fall asleep, and I go late to my office. My boss, outrageous, fires me. When I leave the building, to my car, I found out it was stolen. The police said that they can do nothing. I get a cab to return home, and when I leave it, I remember I left my wallet and credit cards there. The cab driver just [Read more →]
